S an Diego Central Courthouse:    The first permanent courthouse was built in San Diego in 1870. Over the years, the courthouse has been reconstructed and expanded. The 1889 building was finally torn down in 1959 to make way for the present courthouse, completed in 1961. The Main Courthouse is occupied by the Superior Court's Criminal Courts, Family Support, and the Sheriff's Office.

Exit Sixth Avenue and proceed west on Elm to Fourth Avenue and turn left on Fourth. Proceed to Broadway and turn right.

From Interstate 5 southbound

Exit on Front Street (Civic Center) and proceed to Broadway.

From Highway 163 southbound

Exit on Ash Street and proceed westbound. Turn left on Front Street to Broadway.

H all of Justice Courthouse The Hall of Justice is the newest facility in San Diego County, completed in March, 1996. It is occupied by the Superior Court's Civil Independent Calendar courts, the Sheriff's Court Services Bureau, Probation, and the District Attorney's Office. The Downtown Jury Lounge and Jury Services are located in the Hall of Justice.

F amily Law Courthouse The Family Court has jurisdiction over all cases involving dissolutions of marriage, child support and child custody/visitation issues filed in the San Diego area proper. The Family Court downtown is made up of six Superior Courts, an independent calendar section, business office and records section.

K earny Mesa Courthouse :   Traffic, Small Claims and Juvenile Infractions are in this facility. Office hours for Traffic matters are 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and the business office hours for Small Claims are 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday excluding court holidays.

J uvenile Court : Juvenile Court is responsible for adjudicating matters regarding minors. Juvenile Traffic Hearing Officers also hear matters regarding misdemeanor traffic offenses. The judicial officers assigned to Juvenile Court hear a variety of cases involving minors such as: dependency matters involving abuse or neglect to determine whether a minor should be made a ward of the Court; delinquency cases where the offense would be considered a misdemeanor or felony if committed by an adult.

Juvenile traffic infractions are heard at the Kearny Mesa, East County, South County and North County branches.

E ast County Regional Center:  The East County Regional Center is a facility occupied by the Superior Court, Sheriff, Probation, District Attorney, Revenue and Recovery, and the Board of Supervisors. The East County Regional Center hears Civil, Criminal, Family and Juvenile Dependency cases. The court is supported by calendar, jury services, arbitration, exhibit, and business office sections.

N orth County Regional Center The North County Regional Center is a facility shared by the Superior Court, Sheriff, Probation, District Attorney, Revenue and Recovery, and the Board of Supervisors. The North County Superior Court is a full service branch court. Currently the Court hears Criminal, Civil, Family Law, Probate, Small Claims, Appeal, Adoption, Traffic and Minor Offense cases. This branch court has a venue encompassing most of Northern San Diego County.

Most operations and departments which are functional at the main courthouse in downtown San Diego are also operating at this branch. There is a business office handling all filings and records, Arbitration Department, jury facilities, Family Court Services, Probate Examiners, Legal Research Department, and an Older Records and Exhibits Office. Court Reporters and Judicial Secretaries round out the support for this branch.

From Interstate 15 take Highway 78 west to Vista Village Drive (approximately 12 miles). Exit Highway 78 at Vista Village Drive. Turn left on Vista Village Drive and then right on Hacienda. Turn left on South Melrose. Proceed approximately 1/8 mile to County Complex Way. Turn right into the parking lot.
